The Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation (NETRF) announced on January 28th, its latest round of neuroendocrine cancer research grant recipients. Among them is Prof. Thomas Walter, co-leader of the CRCL “Gastroenterology and Technologies for Health” team.
The thirteen investigators receiving awards are pursuing innovative, promising research that has the potential to improve the lives of those living with neuroendocrine cancer. Funding for these thirteen grants totals $2.8 million, bringing NETRF’s all-time investment in research to over $42
million.
Prof. Walter’s research is focusing on two proteins, MTAP and PRMT5, that play key roles in cancer cell survival. Thanks to the NETRF support, the tams will be able to analyze tumor samples to see how MTAP and PRMT5 levels vary across different neuroendocrine tumors and will test PRMT5-blocking drugs in the lab. If successful, this research could identify a new class of treatments for NET patients and help determine which patients are most likely to benefit.
