Publié le 09/12/2025
Patrick Mehlen and Véronique Maguer-Satta, director and deputy director of the Cancer Research Center of Lyon, were both honoured at the annual gala of the Foundation for Medical Research held on Monday 8 December 2025 in Paris. The event honours 20 leading figures and researchers who are working to address major public health challenges, whether through the excellence of their work or their commitment to promoting science.
Patrick Mehlen has been awarded the FRM’s 2025 Grand Prix. Worth €120,000, this prize is awarded each year to an internationally renowned figure in the scientific world for their exceptional contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the medical field. Patrick Mehlen is thus recognised for his entire work on dependence receptors, ranging from their fundamental discovery in 1998 to the development of new associated therapies that are currently showing promising potential in clinical trials.

Véronique Maguer-Satta is the winner of the Lucien Tartois Prize. Worth €20,000, this prize is intended to fund research in oncology, immunology or virology. The team led by Véronique Maguer-Satta is studying how a group of proteins called BMPs (bone morphogenetic proteins) regulate exchanges between stem cells and their environment. Using a 3D model of human bone marrow, the team has shown that abnormalities in this pathway can promote the development and aggressiveness of tumours, and even alter the response to treatment.
